Next day, more of the same

We drove another couple of hours South to another Park4Night find, this time we actually managed to arrive in daylight! These apps really are great, it makes it so easy to find great spots for overnight parking. We prefer not to be on a campsite and I look for places close to a river, lake or beach. I read some reviews left by other likeminded folk and hey presto another perfect spot.

When we arrived we had the riverbank and the sunset to ourselves, after dark another two small vans turned up, 4 people chilled outside late into the night.

In the morning we established that our  neighbours were 4 french surfers also heading for the coast of Portugal. We were also joined on the riverbank by an elderly local gentleman who had set up two fishing rods and then busied himself hoeing the access track to the riverbank. I think this is a popular spot for local families during the summer and at the weekends. He seemed happy enough, he didn’t have a problem with us being here, we all kept to ourselves enjoying the peace and the wildlife. I was excited by my first sighting of a kingfisher ?, who became a frequent visitor through the day. Along with a friendly black weasel that I named Hector, he was clearly accustomed to the scraps from Vanners and local picnickers.

I hope the kingfisher caught more than the local guy, he eventually gave up without a bite at lunchtime when we all decided it was time for a swim. Again it was chilly but very pleasant.

By mid afternoon we had the spot to ourselves again, Paul pumped up the paddle boards and we had a lovely sup up the river. We were enjoying the spot so much we decided to stay another night. The only downside was the 4G kept dropping out, making it difficult for Paul to work so we'll head off in the morning to find a better spot for Paul to work then probably get to Portugal by tomorrow afternoon.
