First, and Second Cataplana ?

We planned to stay in one place for a few days as there was a long ( bank holiday) weekend lockdown in Portugal, and we ended up staying all week. We found a park4night place overlooking the sea, in Albufeira. It was a piece of waste ground, used in the summer as overflow car park to the official and ‘no campers’ permitted beach car park nearby. There were 6-10 vans there throughout the week the local police were fully aware we were there but did not come into the field at all.

It was here that we discovered the Portuguese dish Cataplana, which is a delicious fish stew for 2 served in a large copper dish. We had it twice in local restaurants, including one that is frequented by Bonnie Tyler as she lives in Albufeira .

Due to the COVID situation which at this time is, highly populated areas of Portugal are facing stricter lockdown rules again as the pandemic heads for a second wave worldwide, many hotels and restaurants are closing for the winter, not because their government say they must but because of lack of tourists. Currently, as was the position when we left home, the UK advise all but essential travel to Portugal and most European and worldwide destinations depending on each country’s current infection rates. The rules and the whole situation changes daily.

Paul was temped to kitesurf when the wind got up but I really wasn’t happy with the rocks surrounding the bay and submerged in the bay? so we decided it was time to move on..
