FAQs

Q.

Do you have a shower?

A.

We have a 12v portable shower with a pump that drops into the 10L water containers. We empty the 75L builders bucket (normally used to store wet kitesurfing gear) and take it in turns to stand in the bucket while the other one holds the shower head and operates the switch to start/stop the flow.

Q.

Does the van use much fuel?

A.

On a long run with the cruise control set to around 60mph we get 29mpg and manage 600 miles on a full tank of diesel. The diesel heater uses an insignificant amount of fuel.

Once we get into mountainous regions or you get heavy footed the fuel consumption drops to around 20mpg.

Q.

Does it get too cold in the van when you go skiing or too hot in the summer?

A.

The walls, ceiling and floor are insulated and the silver thermal screens help keep the heat in the van. We have a 2Kw diesel heater under the driver's seat that kicks out plenty of heat to dry ski gear and keeps the interior nice and warm. The heater has a timer so we set it to come on 2 hours before we wake up.

The thermal screens and insulation also keeps the heat of the sun out. When the rear roof vent is open and the front vent is open with the fan set to extract a cooling flow of air goes over the bed.

Q.

Don’t you get fed up with living in a small space all the time?

A.

No, not at all as we spend the majority of the days living a very outdoors based lifestyle. With long hikes, SUPing, swimming, kitesurfing & mountain biking we mainly use the van for sleeping in. We cook as many of our meals on our electriQ Portable Charcoal BBQ as possible including pizza and paella.
